(This could get confusing…hmmm)
So, Jesus is the Apostle of our faith. I feel like I have made that point ad naseum here. He came and taught us about His kingdom and about God. But Jesus taught us all of these things while he was still here on earth. Before he was crucified and resurrected and ascended.
John 14:25 – “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you.”
So how does Jesus speak to us now?? How does he do his apostolic work now?? How does he share his message with others today?
John 14:26 – “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. ”
So, the Holy Spirit is how he does it. The Spirit moves in us and teaches us and shows us what God’s will is. The Holy Spirit moves in pastors to tell them what to say. And the Holy Spirit prompts us to share Jesus’ words with others. The followers of Christ should recognize this fact. And they should recognize that, by the Holy Spirit, Jesus speaks through them to the world. When we tell people the words of Jesus, Jesus is really doing the talking. We are working in his ministry, but it is still HIS ministry. If people listen to us when we tell them of God’s love, then they are really listening to Jesus. Check this out….
Jesus said in Luke 10:16 – “The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
Basically, Jesus is the one preaching and teaching and singing. We are just doing the work with him, but it is HIS work. He is the apostle of our faith, right? If people accept us when we share Jesus with them, then they accept Jesus; and if they accept Jesus then they accept God (he who sent Jesus). This means that the apostolic ministry of Jesus is alive and well in his church. His ministry of “proclaiming” God’s name to his brothers and singing praises back to God is still happening. (Heb 2:12) It is HIS ministry. He is just using us to do it.
